MD Metalline is one of the few largest OEM MIM Components Manufacturer dedicated to delivering high-quality MIM metal components. At MD Metalline, our OEM MIM manufacturing process involves using fine metal powder mixed with binder systems that go through an injection molding process, followed by debinding and sintering to form intricate and repeatable metal components with exact dimensions.
Our OEM MIM components are manufactured using drawings, CAD models, samples, and other information provided by the OEM customers to evaluate the most suitable MIM components. In doing so, we consider the geometry of the components, materials, dimensional tolerances, surfaces, production volumes, operating environment, and assembly requirements.
OEM MIM components are ideal for use in components that involve complicated geometries, miniature components, large production volumes, and components whose manufacturing processes involve reduction of machining and proper use of materials. Based on the designs and performance of the OEM components, we can manufacture micro gears, brackets, connectors, precision housings, medical components, automotive components, and electronic components.
Our OEM MIM manufacturing process involves the key steps of MIM production, which include preparation of feedstocks, precision tooling, injection molding, debinding, sintering, and inspection to deliver reliable MIM components for our OEM customers.
OEM Metal Injection Molding for Precision Components
Many times, OEMs have demand for metal parts which incorporate geometry, repeatability, dimension tolerance, and performance in production.
The MIM process may offer an effective way to manufacture such parts where one forms the geometry in an injection molding process and thereafter transforms the molded part into a metal part using the processes of debinding and sintering.
In many cases, MIM will not involve much material removal and machining when the part is well-designed for MIM. MIM is normally applicable in case geometry, materials, volume of production, and tooling economics favor MIM.
Custom MIM Components for OEM Applications
Each OEM part has unique needs in terms of design and performance.
MD Metalline can assess custom MIM parts according to criteria such as:
- Geometry of the part
- Material requirements
- Dimensional requirements
- Tolerances
- Surface requirements
- Volume production
- Environment of operation
- Assembly requirements
- Subsequent processes
The OEM customer can provide drawings, CAD data, samples, or other technical specifications to assess their component.
Design-for-MIM assessment can help to select suitable geometries, tooling, material, and manufacture of the component before creating the production tooling.
OEM MIM Manufacturing Process
1. Component and Design Review
The manufacturing process starts with a review of the component design and specifications.
Several things to be considered may include geometry, wall sections, features, tolerances, materials, required production volumes, and required secondary processes.
2. Material and Feedstock Selection
Metal powders and appropriate binders are selected based on the component requirements.
Material selection can be based on such characteristics as strength, hardness, wear and corrosion resistance, and environmental resistance.
3. MIM Tooling
Precise tooling is developed to produce the required geometry of the component.
Tool design takes into account the feedstock flow, component geometry, ejection, shrinkage, and dimensional requirements.
4. Injection Molding
The MIM feedstock is injected into the mold cavity, producing molded or “green” component.
Process parameters are adjusted to ensure uniform filling and consistency of the produced component geometry.
5. Debinding
The binder system is stripped off of the molded component using a debinding process.
Debinding prepares the component for sintering without changing the required shape of the component.
6. Sintering
Debound component is heated using a controlled process. The sintering process is characterized by bonding of metal particles.
7. Secondary Operations
If necessary, additional operations are performed to meet component requirements regarding its
